Jack O’Connell plays a sensitive bare-knuckle boxer and Charlie Hunnam is his misguided fuckup manager/brother. To pay off a gangster debt, they travel cross country with a young woman on what becomes a personal drama featuring 3 stereotypes (she’s the troubled misfit with a secret). At almost every turn, older brother makes yet another mistake that puts their exploits into deeper trouble. Above all of this mess are the attempts at making their relationships touching. The actors are doing fine, but director Max Winkler never ramps up the drama to create any real empathy. It doesn’t help that so much of the narrative is transparent.
