Kinda Pregnant

Amy Schumer plays a woman who really wants to have a baby, esp. after her bestie (Jillian Bell) gets preggers. So, she straps on a baby bump and starts to enjoy the special attention she receives. Of course, things get complicated. This is Schumer’s vehicle and she is often funny, although her sometimes go over-the-top expression can get tedious. The script, co-written by Julie Paiva and Schumer, has its share of good punch lines, while adding to the fun is a steady stream of supporting characters that add quirky personalities (great to see Chris Geere turn up after his starring role in the FX comedy “You’re The Worst.”) Finally, director Tyler Spindel, who established his rep for physical comedy in “The Out-Laws” (my review), has created most of the big laughs with some genuinely funny bits. While every joke doesn’t land, more do than don’t. If you enjoy Schumer’s frank and sometimes excessive, embarrassing humor, this movie delivers (pun intended). 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
