Micheal Keaton is the newest mature actor to play a contract killer. After the obligatory murder (which goes wrong), he learns that he has a type of rapid-onset dementia. Then his estranged son (James Marsden) shows up after having killed the man who got his 16-year-old daughter pregnant. Thus proceeds the carefully laid out plan to save his son. Keaton plays his character close to the chest, lacking much outward emotion, while struggling with his mental deterioration. Meanwhile, Marsden does a good job as a troubled dad, while Al Pacino and Marcia Gay Harden add interesting moments. Keaton also directed and his slow-burn style reflects an assured intelligence. The result isn’t an especially original or compelling movie. Still, the film’s greatest asset is Keaton’s performance. (3 / 5)
