Last Breath

In 2019, Alex Parkinson made the documentary of the same name that told the true story of this rescue. He’s back to direct this film using actors and special effects. It’s set in the world of deep-sea divers, who repair the numerous cables on the bottom of the ocean. A trio (Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu & Finn Cole) are on a dive, when one of them gets trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface. Of course, there are complications that make the rescue a challenge. Harrelson adds his amiable wise-guy personality, while Liu and Cole are the more serious roles. Director Parkinson has crafted a somewhat involving thriller that occasionally creates mild tension. Being shot in dark, murky conditions adds to the frustration, so see it on the big screen for best effect. Although there are personal angles, this is mostly a fascinating story of teamwork that’s more impressive because of the incredible outcome. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)
