Both of these films feature a couple in a remote location that turns dark, violent and gripping.
The Trip This Norwegian import stars Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie as an unhappy couple, headed for a weekend getaway where they both plan to kill the other. That’s only the beginning of the merry mayhem. Unexpected developments keep the plot twisting, while the sometimes slapstick violence adds to the surprises. Anyone who appreciates dark comedy seasoned with a healthy dose of whimsical chaos will find plenty to enjoy. NOTE: Since Netflix offers almost every foreign film with subtitles I’ve stopped listing it. (5 / 5)
Til Death Megan Fox and Eoin Macken head to the country to celebrate their anniversary, but things quickly go wrong when she wakes up to find he’s committed suicide…and she’s handcuffed to him. While this presents plenty of challenges for her, the addition of unexpected characters ramps up the cat-and-mouse game. Despite the stressful situations, Fox always looks like she just exited the makeup trailer, which is unnecessary, but her performance is effective. It helps that director S.K. Dale sets up the thrills with assurance and surprise. There are some mildly brutal moments and a few elements that challenge believability, but the film maintains tension to create a solid thriller.
