Meg 2: The Trench

Jason Statham returns with a new cast to continue the quest for understanding the giant prehistoric sharks, called meglodons. This venture involves a dull, dark deep dive into the “trench,” then several struggles to survive, most of which are predictable. Once they get back to a beach with tourists, the watery disaster begins. This segment of destructive mayhem offers the most fun until Statham “morphed into an everyman superhero, defying odds that can only be accomplished through movie effects.” That’s from my review of the original, but still applies. The incredulity of the plot and holes in the logic provide plenty of eye-rolling. Much of the action is average, but for “someone who enjoys a predictable popcorn escape, this one will keep you entertained.” Again, a quote from my orig review. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
