The trend for giving historical stories a modern twist continues with this series. Emily Bader plays the title character, Lady Jane Grey, who finds herself Queen of England after the death of her cousin King Edward VI. While some of the saga is truth-adjacent, other things are complete fantasy, esp. the fact that some of the characters are Ethians (humans who can take animal form). There’s also a score with modern takes on classic pop hits, rollicking escapades, court intrigue and the pivotal romance (with dashing Edward Bluemel). The series has a spunky energy that keeps in entertaining, while the top-notch cast is great, whether playing good or evil. It’s not as precious or over-the-top as Bridgerton (my review), but the plucky attitude, wacky fantasy additions and enjoyable performances combine to create an enjoyable romp. (3.5 / 5)
