This is the first of an upcoming “revival” of raunchy R-rated comedies and it took Jennifer Lawrence’s clout to bring it to theaters. While her talent isn’t lost on the role, she’s only occasionally amusing. Her character is a down-on-her-luck Uber driver who’s hired by helicopter parents to bring their extremely introverted 19-year-old son out of his shell…specifically get him laid. While there are attempts at creating outrageous situations, none of it is especially shocking. As the virgin, newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman does a nice job of growing from sheltered to confident (as expected). The plot follows a predictable arc, but lacks anything quirky or extreme. What’s left is a mildly sweet, but nothing special coming of age story. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
