The biggest difference between this movie and the 1987 version is not that the genders are reversed, but that this one isn’t ever remotely funny. Popular Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez plays the spoiled rich guy and Anna Faris is the struggling mom of 3. When he falls off his luxury yacht and gets amnesia, she convinces him that he’s the hard-working father and provider of her family. Derbez gives his character plenty of frenzied energy, but the situations and the script are never funny. Faris is comically useless. The Hispanic audience members seemed to enjoy the inside jokes (much of the dialogue is Spanish with subtitles), but the humor didn’t translate. In addition, the sweet side of the story never gains much romantic steam. Might be smarter to rent the original.
