Most of this series takes place in a community that seems real but different. The end of the first episode explains it and sets up the rest of this relatively civilized post-apocalyptic drama. After the murder of the President (James Marsden), the weight of the case falls on his #1 Secret Service agent (Sterling K. Brown). From that standpoint it proves a pretty compelling sci-fi story. The only down side is that it was created by Dan Fogleman, whose last series was the weepy “This Is Us.” As a result, Fogleman can’t resist bringing the momentum to a screeching halt, while he gives one of his characters an emotional monologue. Luckily, the cast is up to this and they still manage to turn in some juicy performances. Things start slowly and build to a few mildly tense scenes in later eps. Overall it’s an interesting, but not riveting political mystery thriller. (Eight one-hour eps with a 2nd season already planned). (3.5 / 5)
