This series should be renamed “Presumed Guilty,” because it looks that way from the offset. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a prosecuting attorney whose partner is brutally murdered. Turns out he was having an affair with her and, even after 6 eps, it looks like he did it. Meanwhile, he deals with his wife (Ruth Negga) and kids, while working to build a case for his innocence. Since David E. Kelly has penned the series, you can expect lots of dramatic encounters, although the performances are sometimes one-dimensional or less than compelling. As a courtroom thriller, it has moments and a promising ending, let’s hope. Overall, this series lands squarely in middle ground for the genre. (Review based on 6 out of 8 eps). (3 / 5)
