The Farrelly brothers made several wild comedies, including Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary. This new film is directed by Peter Farrelly only (and his son Bob plays Barry the Bartender). Fortunately, it’s got their wild and funny DNA. Zac Efron, Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler play childhood buds, who created the title character as an excuse for anything that went wrong. They kept up the ruse as adults, but eventually had to introduce him to their partners. Enter “Rock Hard” Rod (John Cena) who they met in Atlantic City, who was doing parodies of rock songs with masturbation themes, including Alice Cooper, Boy George and Billy Idol. And this is Cena’s movie. His comic skills from Peacemaker have ramped up to form the hilarious core of the comedy. Being from a Farrelly, the expected ribald, raunchy jokes are abundant and the laughs are consistent. It may not be as funny as some of their earlier work, but it’s still much better than many current comedies. NOTE: Stay thru the credits for a funny song version of William H. Macy’s air dicks!
