Rebel Wilson debuts her “new look” with this delightful little comedy. She plays the typical super-popular high-school cheerleader, destined to become prom queen…until she lands in a coma for 20 years. When she awakens, she determines to return to school to claim her crown. Wilson heads the cast with amusing aplomb, landing the lines and physical bits with assured flair. It helps that Sam Richardson brings his comic charms as her beau, while the rest of the cast keeps it fun. Sure, the plot is a re-hash, but the often-clever writing, the rockin’ musical breaks and Wilson’s energy help bring a fresh fun take to the genre. (4 / 5)
