Charlie Hunnam plays an Australian paramedic who ends up in prison after a crime goes bad. He escapes to Bombay (it’s the 80s, so it wasn’t Mumbai yet), where he befriends a man who lives in the massive slums (Shubham Saraf creating a sweet character and the show’s strongest relationship).  While hiding from authorities, the refugee’s medical skills come in handy, as he becomes the de facto healer for the neighborhood. Meanwhile, there are rivalries between 2 groups fighting for power and a romantic relationship that further complicates matters. Hunnam demonstrates both charm and determination as he navigates his new milieu, but the rambling narrative undermines the momentum. There are intriguing looks inside the city’s extreme poverty and glimpses of the underworld, but the pacing often lags and the plots move too slowly. Sadly, we’ll never know his fate because the show wasn’t renewed for a 2nd season. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)
