Alison Brie stars as an LA TV producer who comes back to her small town, where she runs into her former boyfriend (Jay Ellis) who’s about to be married. Yes, this trope has played out many times, so it’s up to the script and direction to give it new life. Turns out that Brie co-wrote the script along with her husband Dave Franco, who also directed. This is clearly a vehicle to showcase her skills, which it does well. As a matter of fact, all of the performances are strong. The story’s outcome takes a 21^st century angle which supplies a new twist, but the dialogue is only average and the characters aren’t unique, so this can never rise above average. (3 / 5)
