Bridget Everett is a comic and singer who stars in this autobiographical series. She plays a woman who returns home to Kansas and tries to adjust to small town life. There are some serious encounters with her family, but she also befriends several fellow outcasts for fun. Everett is a unique personality that some will find interesting and others won’t get (she also sings a few times). The standout comic performance goes to Jeff Hiller, as nerdy gay best friend. Peppered throughout the laid-back character humor (no real punchlines here) are moments of tenderness, esp. her mother’s struggle with alcoholism. While there’s not really a plot, the individuals and their interactions explore the human condition with occasional left-field humor and endearing warmth. (Seven 30-minute episodes with Season 2 already renewed) (3.5 / 5)
