Of these 6 TV series, I couldn’t make it past 2 or 3 episodes before determining that they weren’t worth continuing. Here are quick reviews of each of them.

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty John C. Reilly leads this cast as Jerry Buss, the self-assured owner of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 80s. It also follows the rise of Magic Johnson. Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) created this series and it’s crammed with his hallmark style: Frantic edits, characters addressing the camera and graphics to explain stuff. His decision to use multiple film stocks is distracting, but the biggest turn off is the annoyingly aggressive attitude that pervades the series. Fans of the sport may enjoy, but it’s too unfocused and aggressive for others to appreciate. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5) HBOMax link

That Dirty Black Bag This dark, violent Western features the a bounty hunter, who collects his booty’s heads in a bag. After one espisode, there wasn’t anything especially original and the characters weren’t especially interesting. Even the violence wasn’t special. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5) AMC+ link

Wolf Like Me Josh Gad plays a dedicated father, who falls for a woman who happens to be a modern day werewolf (Ilsa Fisher). Sadly, Gad doesn’t get much comic opportunity, which is his strength. Neither does Fisher. It veers much more into emotional issues that frights or cool werewolf situations and just doesn’t matter. 1 out of 5 stars (1 / 5) Peacock link

MacGruber This spin-off is from the movie that was a spin-off of the SNL sketch. Will Forte returns in the title role, but it’s Kristen Wiig who has the only moments of genuine comedy. From the start, this has a low-budget, improvised, self-indulgent approach that simply isn’t clever or funny. 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5) Peacock link

DMZ Rosario Dawson trudges thru various districts of a futuristic New York. There’s a civil war raging outside the borders with faction infighting inside. This is based on a DC Comic, but is yet another apocalyptic drama with lots of posturing and little action. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5) HBOMax link

Life & Beth So many comics crave drama and Amy Schumer is the latest. She wrote and stars as an unhappy woman who sells wine. Her awkward encounters with almost everyone in the cast are never amusing. This is a bleak personal drama, but it’s just no fun. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5) Hulu link
