Superheroes and their families

Looks like the current trend in superhero series is not only to reveal their human side, but to get tangled in their family issues. Here are 2 of the most recent. I also reviewed INVINCIBLE, the animated version with similar themes here.

Jupiter’s Legacy Even though it takes a while to reveal the backstory, the world’s first superheros (led by Josh Duhamel) got their powers in the ‘30s. This series alternates between the origin days and the present, when their children are in line to assume the “power.” When there are conflicts, the fights are full of hard hits. However, there’s a lot more family drama than action. Too much dialogue is never good for a comic book world. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)

Superman and Lois Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch star as the title characters, who move their 2 teen boys from Metropolis to the small rural family farm in Smallville. Dad gets his hero moments and they’re impressive for TV, but then comes the family. The CW is a network aimed primarily at women 18-34, so you can expect the teens to have plenty of issues at home and school. Again with the family drama with teen angst on top. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
