Michelle Buteau has been doing fine work as a comic sidekick for years and this series gives her the chance to shine in the lead. She plays a bi-racial, plus-size, newly-single stylist who has to rebuild her life after things fall apart. Buteau is consistently confidently funny, even though sometimes her mini-rants feel like leftovers from her standup days. There’s a solid cast of supporting folks and sufficient clever encounters to add to the fun. It’s not a ground-breaking series, but it’s great to see a sometimes-dismissed subset of humanity get a fully-fleshed, delightful treatment. (Review based on 4 of 8 eps, all of which have “bitch” in the title). (3.5 / 5)
