Sweet Tooth

This is yet another post-apocalyptic story that based on a comic book (this one by Jeff Lemire). While a virus is causing millions to die, it’s paralleled by the emergence of hybrid babies that are part human and part animal. After living in seclusion for 10 years, the titular character (named because he loves candy) leaves his forest. He soon partners with a large loner (Nonso Anozie) and they set out on a quest. Christian Convery, as the boy, wonderfully conveys the confusion of the outside world and the delight at its wonders (like music). Even with his engaging charms, this story has many dark elements. There are villains in pursuit and other subplots that thicken the storyline. The fantasy creatures are intriguing and even though they’re the center of the conflict, their presence is often supporting, with the exception of Sweet Tooth. Even so, it’s an involving sci-fi adventure with some very sweet moments. (8 one-hour episodes but judging from the final show, a second season is inevitable) 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
