After only 2 years since their inception as a mobile theatre company TheatreLAB is putting down roots. The company will move into “The Basement” at 300 E, Broad Street in the Arts District.
Plans for the space are being developed through Storefront for Community Design’s partnership with VCU, the mOb [Middle of Broad] program. A student team of interior designers, graphic designers, and illustrators (overseen by experienced mentors) are currently developing the renderings for the space. Progress will be on display during First Fridays at the Storefront for Community Design’s offices (205 E. Broad).
The renovations will be completed by October, so they can kick off their 2014-15 season with John Cameron Mitchell’s rock musical HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. The rest of the upcoming season will be announced throughout the capital campaign.
A crowd-funded capital campaign will be launched in April to finance the renovation. TheatreLAB is in the final stages of filing their 501c3 paperwork, so that donations will be eligible for full tax deductibility. colpitts.annie@gmail.com to Managing Director Annie Colpitts for any additional information or to make a contribution.
