The Dry

Eric Bana stars as an Austrailian federal agent who returns to his small rural town for the funeral of his best friend, his wife and their child. Once he’s there, he gets involved in finding the truth, while grappling (in a lot of flashbacks) with the death of another friend 20 years earlier. Basically, this is a dry procedural and in 2 ways:

  1. The area has been plagued by drought for more than a year.
  2. The approach to the case is without any tension or stimulation.

Bana takes his role seriously, but never adds much depth…just lots of concerned reactions to his teen trauma. Even with a layer of quiet underlying menace, the cases aren’t especially interesting and the outcome is only mildly unexpected. 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
