When this movie starts, Millie Bobby Brown’s character is traversing the future world with her life-size toy-like robot. She soon runs into a wisecracking smuggler (Chris Pratt) and their adventure begins. I just watched it last nite and already can’t remember much of the random plot. The big swing from directing duo The Russo Brothers is that they populated much of the movie with a bunch of cartoonish robots. They start out kinda neat, but quickly deteriorate to dumbness. This is pretty much the big problem with the film. Despite Pratt’s occasional amusing quips, there’s not much character from the humans either. Some of the visual effects are cute and there’s a list of potentially fun supporting characters that don’t deliver. This garbled mess turns out to be a trite story with no real personality. (1.5 / 5)
