Dr. Seuss’ famous anti-Christmas character is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch in this new animated version. Because of a childhood trauma, he hates the holiday and plots to steal all of the fun from Who-ville. While all the bases are covered, nothing new or special is created. The story moves well and the dog is the only cute supporting character. Otherwise, it’s a rather average, but colorful reworking of the story…sufficiently entertaining for kids. Even though it’s labeled as a musical on some sites, there’s really only one song (sung by the townspeople as a carol). It doesn’t feature characters breaking out in song (which is the traditional definition).
