The King’s Man

The first movie in the Kingsman series was The Secret Service (my review) and it was good. The sequel The Golden Circle (my review) was actually better. This new one goes backward in time and quality. First, it’s an origin story that sets up how the secret British organization was created. Second, it’s not anywhere as cool or fun as its predecessors. They featured cool gadgets and technology, snazzy visuals and dizzying fights. Not this time. Ralph Fiennes stars as a nobleman who swears off war to protect his son (Harris Dickinson). Nevertheless, they get involved with an international gang of tyrants who threaten world peace. There are a few robust encounters, but it takes more than an hour of dull dialogue to get to anything juicy. Even then, there’s a lack of excitement and inventiveness that sinks the movie’s prospects even further. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
