Reprising his role from The Batman (my review), Colin Farrell once again dons pounds of prosthetics to create the titular villain. With the help of a burgeoning delinquent (Rhenzy Feliz) he sets out control the mobs that run Gotham. Leading the fight against him is an unscrupulous mob daughter (Cristin Falcone). Anyone expecting big, typical DC Comic action scenes will be disappointed. There are a few splashes of violence, but this is much more a typical crime drama. What makes this film stand out is Farrell’s deep, disturbing characterization and Falcone’s equally sinister creation. The dialogue scenes are almost always intense and too long. The overall atmosphere is dark, dark, dark. Certain aspects are compelling, primarily Farrell, but at some point it may be more an acting exercise for him than a riveting dramatic series.
