THE PLAY: A gay playwright finally pens a good script, but it’s based on the African American experience. So, he hires a black woman to pretend she wrote it.
THE PRODUCTION: This four-person cast brings believability, humor and humanity to this talky play. Aaron Mauck (the writer) seems at first a bit too mannered and over the top, but as his character develops, it turns into an entertaining performance. The direction is straightforward (although the scene changes are a bit abrupt) and the energy never lags, even through two excessively preachy and overwritten scenes (one in each act).
THE POINT: An interesting play given an energetic and entertaining staging.
