The Tutor

It must be addressed up front: What’s with the obviously-shaved recession and completely distracting haircut that Garrett Hedlund has chosen for his character? (You can even see the areas where’s it’s shaved clean.) He plays a private tutor who’s assigned an extremely rich but rather peculiar new student (Noah Schnapp from Stranger Things). The kid has issues and he keeps withholding the truth until it’s too late. What results is a rather mediocre thriller that’s convoluted and overwrought. This type of revenge story is popular now and it requires a certain skill for any originality. This one fails with obvious twists and failed logic. Hedlund doesn’t really bring much interesting to his role, while Schnapp does OK with his reserved weirdness. The premise is mildly intriguing, but full of flaws and but lacking in tension. 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)
