This series is based on the TV show, while the movie is Norway’s version of Godzilla.
Wednesday The Addams Family has inspired several screen incarnations, but this latest follows the typical Netflix formula by aiming at the young female audience. The title character (played by Jenna Ortega) is the dour daughter. Dad and mom make a brief appearance in Ep 1 when they send her off to a special school with her “hand” helper “Thing” (who provides much of the shows minimal comedy). Some of the psychic stuff comes to play, but not a lot. This is much more a teen romance peppered with a mystery, than a typically dark Addams Family trope. The first 4 eps were directed by Tim Burton and they have his dark humor sensibility, but there’s not much really funny and the rest of the plot plays out in typical manner. (2.5 / 5)
Troll This is a Norwegian production that follows the Hollywood formula for monster invasions. The titular beast can actually merge with the mountains to camouflage himself, but once he’s riled, destruction ensues. As expected, there’s a renegade scientist who’s trying to save the day (and the troll), while the government military just wants to destroy it. Ultimately, it rampages thru Oslo so we get the same sort of damage as any Godzilla movie, but this one only seems to harm buildings. This film offers a taste of Norwegian culture, but it’s never suspenseful or exciting. Just watching property being destroyed and the accompanying special effects are not enuff to make it memorable.
