Two foreign thrillers

Netflix keeps expanding its offerings with lots of foreign imports. Here are 2 recent thrillers from Poland and Sweden.

All My Friends are Dead

A big group of young people gather for a New Year’s Eve party than ends in a bloody slaughter. Instead of one maniac killer, this dark comedy has several people offing their friends, sometimes unintentionally. Most of the first hour is spent with relationship silliness until the violence ramps up in the final 10 minutes, most of it over-the-top ending in an absurd but amusing comic climax. There are some clever ways to dispatch the partygoers, but it’s not really worth the wait. (Polish with English dubbing) [rating stars=”2.0″]

Red Dot

A couple, whose relationship is rocky, decides to take a weekend trip that includes a hike into the snowy mountains. Early on, the titular laser site disturbs their first night and things only go downhill from there (no pun intended). There are some tense moments, even as some of their efforts defy logic. Ultimately, their plight takes an uxexpected turn in the final act, which adds a new layer of conflict. The tension isn’t constant, but there are enough anxious moments to keep it involving.
