Henley Street Theatre & Richmond Shakespeare have announced their upcoming season (with several shows back in the familiar VMFA theatre):
– Equivocation (the previously announced co-production with VA Rep)
– Antony & Cleopatra (7th Annual Bootleg Shakespeare in partnership with VMFA at the Leslie Cheek Theatre)
– Mr. Dickens’ Christmas Carol (adapted by Bo Wilson at the VCU’s Grace Street Theatre)
– The Lion In Winter (in partnership with VMFA at the Leslie Cheek Theatre)
– Sam and Carol (world premiere of a play by local novelist/playwright David L. Robbins at the Gottwald Playhouse with Eva DeVirgilis in the role of Carol)
– Next summer’s Richmond Shakespeare Festival at Agecroft will include “Much Ado About Nothing” & “Hamlet” (Lisa Wolpe, Producing Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company, will direct & star in this all-female production).
There will also be 4 “Historical Play Readings” highlighting Theatre in the Headlines of History:
– Omnium Gatnereum (a Pulitzer Prize finalist about 9/11 to be read on 9/11)
– The Father, or Family Feuds and Raymond & Agnes, or The Bleeding Nun (about the Richmond Theatre Fire on 1811)
– Ubu Roi (This classic play by Alfred Jarry presented in conjunction with the French Film Festival)
– Our American Cousin (the play that was running when Lincoln was assassinated to be read on the 150th anniversary of that event)
