TheatreLAB is calling their upcoming season “A Vivid Impression of Reality” and they’re adding a secondary slate of shows:
LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL by Lanie Robertson (11/12 – 12/12) Directed by Deejay Gray
Katrinah Carol Lewis plays Billie Holiday.
BAD JEWS by Joshua Harmon (2/18-3/5) Directed by Debra Clinton
This comedy takes place the night after their grandfather’s funeral, when 3 cousins engage in a verbal – and sometimes physical – battle.
VENUS IN FUR by David Ives (4/14-5/7) Directed by Matt Shofner
A playwright/director is looking for an actress to play the lead in his adaptation of the classic sadomasochistic tale Venus in Fur. Into his audition bursts a woman. A co-production with Spin, Spit & Swear.
TRIBES by Nina Raine (7/14-8/6) Directed by Deejay Gray
Billy was born deaf into a hearing family and raised inside politically incorrect cocoon. When he meets a young woman on the brink of deafness, he understands what it means to be understood.
The Cellar Series will feature plays with shorter runs, smaller budgets and edgier, unknown or new scripts from local playwrights and fringe festivals. It will also be a platform for eclectic performance art and revivals like Sycamore Rouge’s “Six Block Series.”
In an additional effort to give back to the community, the artwork created for each show by TheatreLAB Associate Artistic Director McLean Jesse will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the community partner attached to the project.
