With Tina Fey starring (and judging from the promos) you’d expect this to be a rollicking war comedy. Fey does land a few humorous asides, but they quickly give way to the more serious experiences of a woman reporter in the war zones of Afghanistan and Pakistan (based on Kim Barker’s book). She experiences beginner’s confusion, sexual politics, tragic events and career frustration. Unfortunately, while Fey has a charming personality, she doesn’t mine the dramatic depths of her character’s journey. Even though it’s sometimes predictable and been done better before, the movie tells an interesting story about a journalist’s life in a war zone. (If you haven’t figured it out, the title spelled in phonetic alphabet is WTF.)
