Wolf Man

Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner play a couple who travel to his father’s old farm in rural Oregon with their daughter (Matilda Firth). Even before they arrive, they’re greeted by an unfortunate event (featuring the film’s director Leigh Whannell in a small role). Thus starts the continuous chase that comprises most of the film, as dad starts to change into something resembling the title. The biggest variation on the classic legend is that his wife and daughter have to witness and cope with the transition. While it’s a promising concept, there’s virtually no suspense or terror. It all unfolds expectedly. Whannell offered an alternate version of a familiar tale with his last film, “The Invisible Man” (my review). Unfortunately, that one was better. This one didn’t provide any thrills, resulting in an interesting concept and not much else. 1 out of 5 stars (1 / 5)
