Will Farrell’s character has a weirdly fun relationship with his daughter (Geraldine Viswanathan), who announces she’s getting married. Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon plays the sister to Meredith Hagner, who’s also facing nuptials and her uptight relatives. The conflict arises when both families book the same limited island venue for the same weekend. Farrell does his usual over-the-top shtick, while Witherspoon continues her sly comic style. Luckily, there are supporting roles that add amusing characters and writer/director Nicholas Stoller has included regular comic bits that sometimes work to generate laughs. While this film isn’t especially original in the people or plot (except the hilarious alligator scene), there’s enough energy and humor to make a mildly enjoyable fling.
